The Winner's Circle Recital

The Winner's Circle Recital for the Frederick Symphony Orchestra's Young Artist Competition for Strings will be held on Saturday, January 24 at 2pm at Frederick Community College's J.B. Kussmaul Theater. The recital is open to the public and admission is free.
Designed to encourage the best young musicians in Maryland, the FSO's Young Artist Competition rotates on a three-year cycle in the following sequence: Strings in 2009, Winds and Brass in 2010, and Piano in 2011. This year's finalists were selected from a field of eighteen exceptional middle and high school aged musicians.
The five finalists are violinist Lauren Song of Potomac, MD, violinst Kenneth Liao of Potomac, MD, cellist Shing Ann Yeh of Ellicott City, MD, violinist Brian Kim of Ellicott City, MD, and violinist Jennifer Ro of Baltimore, MD. They will be performing concertos by Mendelssohn, Dvorak, Boccherini, Sibelius, and Saint-Saens. The Winner's Circle Recital serves as the final round of the Young Artist Competition. The Grand Prize Winner will perform as a guest soloist with the Frederick Symphony Orcehstra on the March 7th concert as well as receive a $1000 cash prize. The Second Place Winner will receive an award of $500, and three third places prizes of $100 will also be awarded.
