Ah Choo! Help Prevent the Spread of Flu
UnitedHealthcare Reminds People in
Maryland, DC and Virginia That There is Still Time To Get A Flu Shot
by Jim Cronin, CEO, UnitedHealthcare of Maryland

Fever. Aches. Chills. Tiredness. Runny Nose. Upset Stomach. The signs and symptoms of the flu are among us, but there is still time to protect yourself and help stop its spread - especially for those most venerable to the virus.
"Flu season is here, but it's not too late to get vaccinated against the flu virus," said Sam Ho, M.D., executive vice president and chief medical officer of UnitedHealthcare. "Because the virus mutates and changes from one flu season to the next, last year's flu shot won't protect against this year's virus. We encourage everyone, especially people in the high-risk groups for influenza, to make their health a priority by scheduling time to get their annual flu shot."
UnitedHealth Group recommends that anyone who falls under the following categories should get their flu shot vaccinations as soon as possible: children 6 months through 18 years of age;
* pregnant women;
* individuals of any age with certain chronic medical conditions;
* adults 50 years of age and older;
* individuals who live in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities
A doctor's order is not required for a flu shot; however, a normal office visit copay or coinsurance may apply. Most employer-sponsored, Medicare and Medicaid plans offered through health carriers, such as UnitedHealthcare and its affiliates, provide full payment coverage for the vaccination.
In addition to scheduling an appointment with their primary-care physician for a flu shot, UnitedHealthcare's 1.5 million participants in the region can locate a local flu shot provider by visiting www.myuhc.com, or by calling the toll-free number on the back of their member ID card. Customers are reminded to consult their plan documents for specific information regarding flu shot vaccinations.
Keep yourself and those around you safe and healthy. Get your flu shot today.
