It's Only Ink!
Beetle Boddiker

When you look at the world from a bug's point of view, you see it a whole lot differently. "Beetle Boddiker" has been invited to his brother Nevin's for a party. "Beetle Boddiker" rarely ever leaves the comfort of his own home. Because he hadn't seen his brother for quite some time, Boddiker decides to bare the elements and go for an adventure. The invitation hadn't said who the party was for. Should he bring a gift? Had he forgotten his own brother's birthday?
Either way, his brother has always been there for him. He had to go. Boddiker set out the next day. He slid his way through wet grass, jumped over a hose, and met a toad, climbed over a sea of rocks, got swept down a stream, floated into a drain, and climbed a towering wall. Now soaking wet, Boddiker wondered if this was such a good idea. But he continued on until he saw lights from his brother's house. Nevin and his party guests came out to greet Boddiker.
Who was the party for? Find out by getting Priscilla Cumming's "Beetle Boddiker" today.
The colorful illustrations give each of the characters definition and show brilliantly the struggles this nervous little beetle had to overcome to get to his intended destination.
Although this book is great for children of all ages, it would be wonderful for kindergarten through third graders as a classroom discussion. The rhyming verse works well with this kind of story and early advanced readers will have no problem reading it unaided.
This reviewer and her children thoroughly enjoyed reading Cummings' adorable tale.
