Everyone Invited to July 4 Shepherdstown Parade and Picnic

Everyone is invited to an Independence Day parade and community picnic in Shepherdstown on July 4.
The parade will be held at 11am on German Street downtown.
The picnic will be held right afterwards, from noon to 3:30pm, in the pavilion at Morgan's Gove Park just south of town.
In keeping with the traditional spirit of the holiday, both the parade and picnic will feature a special salute to veterans.
The picnic will feature a barbeque cook-off with a $250 cash award and trophy for the first-place finisher. There will also be horseshoes and volleyball for adults and a variety of games for children.
Picnic-goers can bring their own picnic lunch or buy lunch there. Betty's Restaurant will be providing hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, beverages and other items for sale.
The popular local musical group the Speakeasy Boys will perform at both events.
This is the second year for the parade and picnic, which are sponsored by the Rotary Club of Shepherdstown. Club president Dave Miljour said the idea is to emphasize traditional small-town values and provide a wholesome, family-oriented Fourth of July celebration that everyone can enjoy.
The Rotary Club hopes the parade and picnic will become annual events for the town.
Those who would like to be part of the parade should contact Peggy McKowen at 304-876-3304 or pmckowen@shepherd.edu.
Those who would like to enter the barbeque cook-off should contact Tom Trumble at 304-876-2161 or ttrumble@frontiernet.net.
