Foster Parent Appreciation Month

Foster Parent Appreciation Month

May is Foster Parent Appreciation Month and the Washington County Department of Social Services celebrated the weekend of May 2-4 by hosting two events to show the appreciation to the Foster Parents of Washington County for all they do.
The weekend started by hosting a Foster Parent Appreciation Dinner on Friday, May 2, 2008 at the Williamsport Fire Hall. The theme was "Come Celebrate the Treasures in Foster Care" and many participants came dressed in appropriate pirate attire. Everyone was entertained by Phantom Shadow Entertainment, and fantastic face painting and balloon creations by A Face in the Crowd.
Special guests included Stacy Rodgers, Deputy Secretary for Programs from the Department of Human Resources (DHR) who brought greetings from DHR Secretary Brenda Donald. Kay Hoffman from the Sunrise Rotary gave special recognition to Debbie Ridenour who has been a foster/adoptive parent for twenty years.
Sunday, May 4, 2008 was Foster Parent Recruitment Day at the Hagerstown Suns game. DHR's traveling foster care recruitment bus was present and DHR Social Services Administrative staff and local WCDSS staff joined together to promote foster parenting. Special thanks to Senator Munson and WCDSS Board Secretary, David Yohman for attending the event and supporting our efforts. Washington County has been recognized for being the first county to achieve its goal in the licensing of new foster homes!
The Washington County Department of Social Services is a field office of the Maryland Department of Human Resources under the direction of Governor Martin O'Malley, Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown, and Secretary Brenda Donald.
