World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra To Perform At The Maryland Theatre May 27th
(Hagerstown, MD)- The Glenn Miller Orchestra will fill The Maryland Theatre with sounds of the big band era on Tuesday, May 27 at 7pm. The performance is a salute to the armed forces and will benefit the Joint Veterans Council of Washington County. The Hagerstown-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau is the largest financial sponsor of the event.
According to organizers, the Glenn Miller Orchestra is the most well-known and sought after big band for both concert and swing dance engagements. With its unique sound, the orchestra is considered to be one of the greatest bands of all time. The present 19-member Glenn Miller Orchestra was formed in 1956 and has been touring consistently since, playing an average of 300 live dates a year, all around the world. Trombonist Larry O'Brien is the orchestra's musical director.
The Honorary Chairman of the event is The Honorable John O. Marsh, Jr., of Winchester, Va. Marsh is a former Secretary of the Army and a former U.S. Congressman from the Commonwealth of Virginia. Marsh will be introduced at the concert following the posting of the colors by the American Veterans' (AMVETs) National Color Guard.
