Ribbon Cut and Infield Dedicated at Municipal Stadium

Hagerstown, MD- On Friday, May 2nd the Hagerstown Suns welcomed several local officials to Municipal Stadium to participate in a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the first major field renovation at Municipal Stadium in many years. This past off-season a new infield was installed at Municipal Stadium for the first time since the Suns began play in 1981.
The project was made possible through a partnership by the City of Hagerstown, Washington County, Hagerstown/Washington County Convention & Visitors Bureau, Washington Nationals and the Hagerstown Suns.
Hagerstown Mayor Bob Bruchey, and Council members Martin Brubaker and Lew Metzner, joined Washington County Commissioners Kristin Aleshire and Jim Kercheval as well as Hagerstown/Washington County Convention & Visitors Bureau President, Tom Riford and Hagerstown Suns General Manager, Will Smith on the field for the ribbon cutting ceremony.
The project included a complete stripping of the infield grass, leveling and laser-grading the entire infield as well as laying new sod and infield diamond mix.
The original ceremony was scheduled for the 2008 season opener on Friday, April 11, 2008, but the ceremony and game were postponed due to rain.
