Suns Announce 2008 Promotional Schedule
Upcoming season will include fireworks, giveaways and much more!
Hagerstown, MD- Friday, April 11th is Opening Night for the Hagerstown Suns and marks the beginning of the team's second season as an affiliate of the Washington Nationals. The Suns open their season on the road April 3rd versus the Delmarva Shorebirds (Orioles affiliate). The 2008 schedule features many of the fan-favorite promotions that have become staples at Municipal Stadium, along with several new and exciting promotions. Highlighting the promotional schedule will be two appearances by the Dale Earnhardt Junior #88 National Guard Car, fourteen of the Tri-State area's best fireworks shows, and eleven premium giveaway nights including two bobbleheads.
Dale Jr's #88 car will be on display in the Hagerstown Trust Plaza of Municipal Stadium on Opening Night, April 11th and on NASCAR Night July 12th. Fans are encouraged to come early to get their picture taken with NASCAR'S most popular driver's car as it makes its first appearance in Hagerstown. Fireworks continue to rank as Suns fans' favorite promotional nights at the ballpark. Fireworks dates in 2008 include April 11th, May 23rd, May 30th, June 6th, June 7th, June 27th, July 11th, July 12th, July 25th, August 1st, August 8th, August 9th, August 22nd, and August 31st.
One of the Suns two bobblehead giveaways is a continuation of the Suns successful "Scholastic Heroes" bobblehead series, which began in 2005. On May 30th, Greencastle-Antrim High School will celebrate their mascot, the "Blue Devil". On June 7th, the first 1,000 fans will receive an Elizabeth Schulze bobblehead. Schulze is the conductor of the Maryland Symphony Orchestra.
"The majority of our giveaway items are directly associated with our team or the Washington Nationals, but we like to get creative with events and giveaways that promote other important aspects of our community," said Suns General Manager Will Smith. "We have had a lot of success the past few seasons recognizing local schools and community organizations with bobbleheads. It is a unique way to generate interest for our community partners while drawing a crowd to the ballpark that might not have experienced the enjoyable atmosphere of Suns baseball before."
Over the past half-decade the Suns have consistently garnered national headlines for creative promotions. The 2008 promotional schedule includes a few promotions that should generate the same type of fan interest and media intrigue. On April 17th, the Suns will celebrate National High Five Day. Players and coaches will be available inside the front gate to greet fans with a high five as they enter the ballpark. May 18th will mark the fourth annual National Egg Toss Championships to be held at Municipal Stadium. On June 5th, Suns fans will have the opportunity to participate in a celebration of the paparazzi. As the baseball season winds down, the Suns will help fans look forward to the football season with a football kick-off celebration on August 30th.
The Suns will once again host our annual "Pitching Pink" night promoting Breast Cancer Awareness. On June 7th, fans will have the chance to bid on their favorite player's jersey in the "Shirt Off Our Backs" Jersey Auction.
