In the regular meeting of the Washington County Board of County Commissioners on January 29th, Commissioners Vice-President Terry Baker presented the 2008 Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation to Budget and Finance Director Debra Murray, and members of the department staff.
GFOA awarded Washington County Government its Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the Fiscal Year 2008 budget.
GFOA says the award represents a significant achievement for the governmental entity, reflecting the commitment of the Commissioners and staff in meeting the highest principles in government budgeting. Nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentations must be met, and serve to show how well the budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device.
The Certificate of Recognition is presented to the individual or department designated as primarily responsible for budget activities. Debra Murray accepted the award on behalf of the Budget and Finance Department, along with staff members Deputy Directors Kim Edlund and Dawn Barnes, and Budget Analyst Paula Blenard.
The Government Finance Officers Association is a professional organization serving 16,800 government finance professionals throughout North America. The GFOA award program is the only one of its type in governmental budgeting.
Baker congratulated Budget and Finance staff and Murray for a job well done.
