Teacher of the Year Nomination Period Open

Hagerstown, MD (November 29, 2007)- Nominations are now being sought for the 2008 Educators of the Year Awards, sponsored by the Hagerstown/Washington County Chamber of Commerce Foundation, Inc. One teacher from the Washington County Public Schools is selected each year to represent the county in the Maryland State Teacher of the Year awards program. Smithsburg Elementary School kindergarten teacher Gwen Pangborn was the 2007 honoree.
Nominations are welcome from students, parents, community organizations, businesses, colleagues, and administrators, reflecting a nominee's outstanding teaching skills and ability. Eligibility criteria for consideration as a Teacher of the Year candidate include a position as full-time classroom, resource, or media teacher who spends a majority of his or her time teaching; minimum five years teaching experience; and must remain in a teaching position during the next school year.
Nomination forms are available at each of the Washington County Public Schools, at the WCPS Central Office on Commonwealth Avenue, Hagerstown, and online at the WCPS website: www.wcboe.k12.md.us. Nominations should be submitted to the Chamber of Commerce Foundation, Inc., at 28 W. Washington Street, Suite 200, Hagerstown, MD 21740, or by fax to 301-739-1278. The nomination deadline is January 25, 2008. The Washington County Teacher of the Year will be announced at an awards dinner on April 23, 2008.
