Freaky Foods from Around the World
Ramona Moreno Winner certainly put a lot of research into her new book "Freaky Foods from Around the World". As a true-to-life story based on experiences of the author, Winner writes an interesting and creative book for children.
Winner states that the "greatest hurdle [with traveling around the world] came when we we sat down to eat a meal." I can only imagine--especially as a child.
Winner wrote this book for "children who do not get an opportunity to trave."
"Freaky Foods from Around the World" is about a little boy named Lucas who invites his friends to lunch at his grandma's house. Grandma, as a world traveler, likes to prepare odd and peculiar recipes like spider salads and barbecued raccoon.
Written in both English and Spanish, this book has playful illustrations in full-color. Luis Borsan's drawings bring the text to life.
In the back of the book, the author has included "Freaky Facts and Recipes." This section tells natural history facts on animals used for food.
