Travel Happiness/European Winter Vacations
by Art Richards
In the travel business, one tends to get into the next season much quicker than the average person. One reason is that we are currently receiving literature and travel brochures outlining a number of options for Winter Vacations. I wanted to specifically share a few ideas regarding European options.
As I read through some of the trips, I feel inclined to go myself. They all sound terrific! The Christmas trips available in late November and December are particularly fascinating to me. Several years ago I escorted a Christmas Trip to Germany and Austria and I would do it again at the drop of a hat. With the decorations, the Christmas Markets and festive atmosphere - it is easy to get into the spirit of Christmas. This year we see trips to Bavaria with a touch of France (Strausburg), Christmastime in Munich and Eastern Europe, as well as weeklong trips to England or London and Rome. The prices for these trips are also very attractive, given its off season. For example, a six day London package at the Waldorf Hilton with air, transfers, full English breakfast daily, a dinner at Simpsons in the strand, and local sightseeing tours can be enjoyed for about $1300 per person. The more extensive and exclusive 8-9 day Christmas Tours are around $1500 with more meals and sightseeing.
A number of trips to Europe are offered January-April... also at very attractive prices. For example, a 10-day trip to Spain in March is about $1500, or Italy’s Great Cities - Rome, Florence and Venice - only $1800 for a March departure.
We are offering an “Irish Adventure Tour” to Ireland in March from Hagerstown with lots of special features for only $1474 per person. Included are air, first class hotels and extensive sightseeing, full Irish breakfast daily and six dinners... an unbelievable value.
Europe in the off-season is truly a value and the weather can be quite nice. The crowds are not there, sightseeing is more relaxed and you can even shop for values. A winter European Vacation would make a great Christmas present... and one that would be long remembered.
