C&O Canal and Town of Williamsport Host Williamsport Days Celebration

The C&O Canal National Historical Park and Town of Williamsport will host the annual Williamsport Days festival on August 25-26, 2007. The C&O Canal will be celebrating the 91st anniversary of the founding of the National Park Service (August 25) in conjunction with a celebration of Williamsport's heritage during this weekend-long celebration. Visitors of all ages are invited to enjoy programs, music and events being held at the Cushwa Basin and Byron Memorial park from 10am to 4pm Saturday, and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.
Festival highlights at the Cushwa Basin include Junior Ranger Day activities for Children 5-12 featuring a Scavenger Hunt, "Paint Your Own Canal", Meet the Mule, and Be a Locktender. Children completing activities will receive a commemorative certificate and badge at a special swearing-in ceremony. Musical performances include folk music by Kate Evans, Appalachian Mountain Music by Mary Dailey, and Songs and Stories of the C&O Canal with Matthew Dodd. Both the Trolley Barn and the Lockhouse 44 will be open with special exhibits on the canal, slide shows, storytelling and model railroad displays.
The Town of Williamsport will be hosting a craft fair, food, music, raffles, and antique car show at Byron Park and in the town. Trolley service will be available for a $1/ride for visitors to travel back and forth between the Cushwa Basin and Byron Park.
