Toll-Free Hot Line Offers Support For People With Type 2 Diabetes

(NewsUSA)- Type 2 diabetes can be challenging both physically and emotionally, especially during stressful times and special occasions, such as family reunions, work events and the holidays. Emotional support is critical in helping people with this condition stay on course with their treatment.
According to a recent survey of people with Type 2 diabetes conducted by the American Association of Diabetes Educators, 41 percent of respondents said that having someone willing to listen to their diabetes-related concerns would help them stay on track during times of emotional stress.
In an effort to provide support, Nutrition 21, the maker of the nutritional therapy Diachrome, is offering a toll-free hot line. People with Type 2 diabetes can call 877-PICK-330 to speak with a certified diabetes educator, who will listen and provide customized, easy tips on managing diabetes. All calls to the hot line will be returned within one week of leaving a message.
Those who prefer the Web can find tips on how to manage Type 2 diabetes by visiting www.pick3forhealth.com/news. Diachrome is available at major chain drug stores in the section where diabetes care products are sold.
"Numerous studies demonstrate that social support is valuable in diabetes management.
Simply having someone to talk to about the emotional stresses of the condition can help inspire people to better manage their condition," said Janis Roszler, a registered dietitian and author of "Diabetes on Your Own Terms." "The 877-PICK-330 hot line provides people with Type 2 diabetes a much-needed sounding board to help them get through stressful times one healthy step at a time."
Roszler, one of the experts who have staffed the hot line, offers these three simple tips:
1. Eating should be delicious, not depriving. If you're tempted by cousin Mary's apple pie, come armed with your own healthier version of this delicious dessert.
2. Make exercise fun. Do something you enjoy - gardening, dancing or walking around the mall. While you exercise, take the "talk test" to make sure you're not overdoing it. You should be able to talk comfortably with someone while you are participating in an activity.
3. Supplement daily with Diachrome. Diachrome can help maintain blood sugar and cholesterol levels. A nutritional supplement that contains chromium picolinate and biotin, Diachrome has been shown in numerous clinical studies to be effective in the management of Type 2 diabetes. It can be safely taken alone or used in combination with multiple prescription diabetes, cholesterol and blood pressure medications.
