Discovery Station Receives Grant

Discovery Station, located at 101 West Washington Street, has announced that the museum is the beneficiary of a $14,000 grant from the Citigroup Foundation. The grant is being used for a number of field trips from Washington County Public Schools. "These are mostly 'Title 1 schools,' and also the elementary school in Hancock," said Discovery Station President Marie Byers. "Hundreds of 4th graders from throughout Washington County will be coming to Discovery Station in the next several weeks." Byers said that about eight schools have reserved field trips so far, with as many as one hundred students and staff per field trip.
Deb Gorbsky, Site President of Citi Hagerstown said, "The Citigroup Foundation derives its funding from gifts by Citigroup businesses. We are delighted that Citi Hagerstown is in a position to host the Citigroup Foundation grant program in our community. The museum's educational programs and exhibits provide wonderful opportunities for local school children to enjoy a fun learning experience right near home at our very own Discovery Station."
The Citigroup Foundation assists with local educational programs, according to Gorbsky. "Enhancing educational opportunities helps to better prepare the next generation for personal and professional success."
