Christmas Tour of South County Churches

Christmas Tour of South County Churches

Saint Mark's Episcopal Church at Lappans is organizing a Christmas Tour of South County Churches. The self-guided tour is scheduled for December 28 from 3-7pm. It includes seven churches in Boonsboro, Keedysville, and Sharpsburg and should take approximately two hours to complete.
The tour is a way to see the inside of these historic churches in Southern Washington County. Some churches on the tour date back to the 1800's. "Many of these churches have beautiful interiors with lots of stained glass," said the Reverend Anne Weatherholt, organizer of the event. Since the tour is during the holiday season, it will also give visitors a chance to see the churches decorated for Christmas.
There will be two hospitality centers along the tour route with refreshments and restrooms available. They will be located at St. Mark's Episcopal Church at Lappans and Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church in Boonsboro. Other churches included on the tour include St. James Roman Catholic Church in Boonsboro, Trinity Reformed Church of Christ in Boonsboro, Mt. Vernon Reformed United Church of Christ in Keedysville, Salem United Methodist Church in Keedysville, and Christ Reformed United Church of Christ in Sharpsburg.
A $5 per person donation is requested with a cap of $15 per family. Entry donations for the tour may be made at any of the churches. All proceeds from the tour will go to the Antietam Workcamp.
As many as 70 local residents will benefit from the Antietam Workcamp, coming to Williamsport July 22-28, 2007. The Workcamp, consisting of 400 adult and teenage volunteers, will provide free home repairs to elderly, handicapped, and low-income county residents, through the Group Workcamps Foundation program. The program is sponsored locally by St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Williamsport Churches, South County Churches, & other organizations including REACH Caregivers, Inc.
The Group Workcamps Foundation is a non-profit, interdenominational Christian volunteer home-repair organization headquartered in Loveland, Colorado. Now in its 30th year of service, Group Workcamps Foundation has hosted over 240,000 volunteers who have improved over 30,000 homes across the U.S., Mexico, and Canada. Next summer, an anticipated 30,000 young people and adults will participate in 64 Workcamps in communities across the United States and Canada.
