The Smithsburg Middle School- Band is marching into fall with 2 parades. This year the band added a flag squad with new flag uniforms and flags. Come out and cheer for the Smithsburg Band at one of their performances. October 21- Homecoming Parade; October 28- Mummer's Parade in Hagerstown.
Two South Hagerstown High School graduates recently received $500 scholarships from Queen Esther Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 3. The chapter's grant scholarship committee selected Lindsay Ann Beattie and Ashley Crawford based on their academic excellence, community support and their desire to continue their education.
Meagan Graff, a junior at North Hagerstown High School, was recently selected as a People to People Sports Ambassador for volleyball.
Bester Elementary- The following students received the Citizen of the Month Award for the month of September. Citizens of the month are recommended by their teacher and receive a small gift as a token of apprecaition for being such good citizens. Octavenn Collins, Cory Irvin, Liam Nystrom, Dyllan Sprankle, Austin Shoemaker, Kerrin Pryor, Tyrese Campbell, Christopher Eller, Jessica Dagenhart, Adelina Rolea, Christian Doub, Mylasia Lewis, Samantha Vitko, Colton Beckman, Ashlee Quezada, Autumn Cavender, Dayne Bryan, Jonathan Shumaker, and Nia McDannell.
