Proverbs 23:4-5 says, "Do not overwork to be rich; because of your own understanding, cease! Will you set your eyes on that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings. They flyaway like an eagle toward heaven."
You may not think consciously that you are working to be rich. But are you sure? Many of us want a little more than what we now have. Most of us never truly lack the things that we need. Yet so many Christians have jumped on the world's treadmill and given up precious hours, days, nights, and even weekends to work--and for what?
For what are you abandoning your chief priorities today? Are your kids growing up without you because you think you need all these things?
"Seek first that Kingdom of God and all these things will be added unto you," Jesus says. Some folks are forced by circumstances into working schedules that they pray will change. But many believers have exchanged their irreplaceable time and their children's unrepeatable youth for things that are replaceable--or can wait.
Since children are gifts from God, doesn't it make sense that they should be an integral part of the Kingdom that God is telling you to seek first? You may not always get what you want, but if you give priority to Christ and His Kingdom, you will always have from Him what you need.
