Eyeglasses are a welcome treat on 'Sight Night'

(NewsUSA)- Each year, thousands of volunteers collect used eyeglasses for "Sight Night" during trick-or-treat. It is an opportunity to have fun while helping those in need.
Over the past seven years, more than 140,000 volunteers have collected 901,568 eyeglasses. They are cleaned, repaired and sorted by Lions clubs and Give the Gift of Sight Foundation volunteers for distribution on international missions to those in need, providing the opportunity for many to see clearly--some for the first time.
"Helping people see and having fun at the same time is what Sight Night is all about, and it is something I will do every year," said Jordan Kingsbury, who, along with his siblings, partnered with the Roseville Host Lions Club in California to collect 200 eyeglasses.
Complete pairs of prescription eyeglasses in all shapes and sizes for children and adults, as well as non-prescription sunglasses, are needed. Good places to inquire about collecting eyeglasses include schools, places of worship, local businesses, recreation centers, senior citizen centers and lost-and-found collections at malls, movie theaters and airports.
You can collect on your own, or expand your efforts by organizing a group. Sight Night can involve schools, Scouts, Lions and Leo clubs and other community groups.
