Judy Center Program offered to three-year-olds

For the first time, a program for three-year-olds will be offered at Bester Elementary School, through the Judy Center, in the 2006-2007 school year. Applications are now being accepted. Up to twenty children will be enrolled in the half-day program, which will follow a pre-kindergarten curriculum. The program will be offered in the afternoon, Monday through Thursday, with a home visitation component on Friday.
The program will be offered ONLY to the students who live in the Bester Elementary attendance area. Eligible children must be three by September 1, 2006. Eligibility requirements include meeting income guidelines and a monthly home visitation.
"We're confident that this early learning experience will be quite valuable for children and their families," said Jill Burkhart, Supervisor of Early Learning, English & Language Arts, and Social Studies. "It is our expectation that the new Judy Center program will build a strong foundation for student achievement and later school success."
Applications are available from Bester Elementary School and from the Washington County Public Schools Central Office on Commonwealth Avenue in Hagerstown. For more information contact Trudy Mackrell-Metz at the Judy Center, located at Bester Elementary, at 301-766-8005.
