TV Talk! Kyle XY is a Hit
Kyle XY is a Hit
The premiere may have brought in the most viewers in ABC Family history, but when ABC aired the premiere June 26, 2006, 5.2 million tuned in to meet the mysterious teenager with no belly button. In recent Friday night history, ABC has continually failed to capture viewers. Repeats of "Kyle XY" will air three more weeks on ABC before they turn over the series exclusively to ABC Family.
"Kyle XY" follows the story of Kyle (Matt Dallas), a mysterious teenage savant with the innocence of a newborn. After being found wandering in traffic and put in an institution, he meets psychologist Nicole Trager, who brings him home, much to the chagrin of her two children Lori and Josh. Even her husband Stephen is a bit wary of his wife's latest patient. As Kyle begins to show signs of brilliance, solving the mystery of his origin and potential abilities becomes the family's mission.
Many reviewers have categorized this science-fiction show with "Smallville" and "Roswell", stating that where these two shows have dark elements, "Kyle XY" has a lighter sitcomish sensibility.
Hoping to be the next big hit, "Kyle XY" has received some pretty good reviews from watchers: "Kyle XY has found the *it* factor."
""Kyle XY" is not without its charms. By creating a character without guile or pretense, one filled with curiosity and acute powers of observation, writers Eric Bress and J. Mackye Gruber can comment on social conventions and institutions without getting preachy. At the same time, they set up a mystery that, one hopes, will not be solved anytime soon."
When is it on?: Mondays at 8pm EST on the ABC Family Channel (check local listings).
Starring: Matt Dallas, Marguerite MacIntyre, Bruce Thomas, April Matson, and Jean-Luc Bilodeau
