Hagerstown Firefighting History
"Images of America: Hagerstown Firefighting Through the Years" is the second book to Firefighting in Hagerstown (2004) written by Hagerstown Fire Captain Justin T. Mayhue. The attractive pictorial book covers firefighting in Hagerstown from the early 1800s to present day while offering over 200 vintage images.
Along with the text that covers topics from buckets to fire engines there are beautiful mesmerizing photos of firefighters, major fires, and engines and equipment used now and long ago.
Mayhue's book is a must-have. It is neatly organized and well put together. He gives his readers a detailed write-up for the photos, filling the reader with interesting facts and life-changing stories.
"Images of America: Hagerstown Firefighting Through the Years" is a photo-essay book that would fit just as easily in the classroom as it would on the coffee table in someone's home.
Just about everyone loves to read about the past. It is obvious that Mayhue feels compassion and concern when it comes to his fellow firefighters--from the past to the present.
Justin T. Mayhuge, born in Hagerstown, has been a Hagerstown Firefighter since 1983 and Captain since 2002.
