A Purpose Given Gift
A Purpose Given Gift
(ARA)- No holiday is complete without granting a child's wish; and you have the power to make it happen. Make-A-Wish gifts became a tradition at Things Remembered in 1998 when one critically ill child, Elysia, wished to give her family and friends personalized ornaments saying, "Thank you, I love you, and always remember me." Her single wish has grown into an annual program that allows the wishes of children across the nation to come true.
New this season, Things Remembered offers a personally embroidered holiday throw and, "thrown" in for good measure, a holiday pillow door-hanger. Returning favorites include the collectible holiday ornament and star keepsake box. All three gifts benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
To honor the 25th anniversary of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Things Remembered will challenge their sales associates, employees and customers to join them in topping last year's gift of $1 million to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Instrumental in the stores reaching the million-dollar mark was National Make-A-Wish Day, which helped raise nearly $250,000 in just one day!
In order to exceed last year's goal, Things Remembered will expand its fundraising endeavor by extending the "National Make-A-Wish Celebration Event" to a five-day period, with the goal of raising $300,000. This event is the highlight of the fundraising efforts for the year and it is hoped that the total amount raised during this holiday season significantly exceeds last year.
The five-day event runs from November 16 to 20, 2005, when more than 700 mall-based Things Remembered stores will encourage holiday shoppers to share the power of a wish. Things Remembered will offer a 20 percent discount on products and engraving to every customer who donates $5 or more to the Foundation.
Engrave your special message this holiday on one of the Make-A-Wish items available at Things Remembered stores nationwide and online at www.thingsremembered.com.
Make-A-Wish Holiday Throw and Door Hanger:
The charming scene on the new holiday throw depicts a child wishing upon the brightest star while holding hands with a benevolent snowman. The warm blanket measuring 50 inches by 60 inches, includes a snowflake background and fringed edges, along with a charm-shaped, stainless steel star. Each throw can be personally embroidered with the family name or special message. Plus, warm wishes will follow every coming and going when the accompanying pillow door hanger, measuring 5.5 inches by 5.5 inches, dangles from the doorknob. One large star, emblazoned with a shooting star, is set amid an even starrier background. Available for $49.95, $5 from the sale of each throw benefits the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Make-A-Wish 2005 Holiday Ornament:
Made of genuine pewter, the brand-new Make-A-Wish 2005 ornament is engraveable and snowflake-shaped; it comes bearing beautiful Swarovski crystals and hangs from a chiffon ribbon. Available for $11.99, $2 from the sale of each limited-edition ornament helps grant the fondest wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.
Make-A-Wish Star Keepsake Box:
An enchanting Star Keepsake Box with inspirational wishing stones is the first-ever, year-round Make-A-Wish gift from Things Remembered. The brushed silver-plated keepsake box can be engraved with a personal message. Inside, five lovely wishing stars are inscribed with the words "Peace, Hope, Love, and Dreams," with the fifth star adorned with the Make-A-Wish logo. Brilliant Swarovski crystals glitter on each of the star's five points. Equally brilliant, $5 from each sale benefits the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The Star Keepsake Box is available for $34.95.
According to Suzanne Sutter, president of Things Remembered, this eighth holiday season of unique Make-A-Wish gifts will bring the total amount raised for the Foundation to far above the $3 million mark. "We are hoping that our eighth anniversary in partnership with Make-A-Wish Foundation will help raise a significant amount, pushing the count ever closer to the $3 million dollar mark," she says.
"We're proud to be able to continue with this awesome tradition in honor of Elysia's memory, and we're happy to be partners in Make-A-Wish Foundation's efforts to bring joy, strength and hope to the lives of youngsters with life-threatening medical conditions."
