Attention non-profits: Apply for county community organization funding
By Sarah Lankford Sprecher
Director of Public Relations & Community Affairs
The Washington County Office of Community Grant Management would like to notify local charitable organizations providing services within Washington County of certain qualification requirements necessary to be considered for a Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) community organization funding allocation.
Funding allocations are made annually as part of the County's budgetary approval process and are contingent on the availability of funds and any other restrictions or requirements as determined appropriate by the Board of County Commissioners.
In order for an organization to qualify to submit an application, the following requirements must be met:
1. The organization must be included on the list of non-profit organizations (the "1-108 List") as provided for in Section 1-108(b) of the Code of the Public Local Laws of Washington County, Maryland.
2. The organization must be a charitable organization holding a valid 501(c)3 designation from the Internal Revenue Service.
3. The organization must be incorporated as a business entity and in good standing with the Maryland State Department of Assessments and Taxation.
4. The organization must have a location in Washington County where the organization conducts the business of the organization.
5. The organization must be able to provide a recent financial audit or detailed financial statement with their application packet.
How to be Placed on the 1-108 List
There is a submission request process for an organization to be considered for placement on the 1-108 List and the Office of the County Attorney is responsible for processing those requests.
If an organization wishes to apply for BOCC community organization funding and is not currently on the 1-108 List, it must submit a letter requesting inclusion by August 15, 2012. From the time of receipt, the review process takes approximately 30-45 days to complete.
Please submit your requests to:
Office of the County Attorney
100 West Washington Street
Hagerstown, MD 21740
If nonprofits are unsure if they are on the 1-108 list, please contact the Office of the County Attorney. Please note that being included on the 1-108 List is not a guarantee your organization will receive funding.
Request Submission Due Date is August 15, 2012
The absolute deadline for submission of requests to be considered as an approved non-profit organization eligible to receive BOCC community organization funding is the close of business on August 15, 2012. Requests received after this date will not receive consideration in sufficient time to be considered for fiscal year 2014 funding. It is anticipated that applications for fiscal year 2014 funding allocations will be released in mid-September of 2012, with a due date of mid-October 2012.
Non-profit organizations should contact Jim Hovis or Melissa Nearchos at the Office of Community Grant Management at 240-313-2040 for additional information.
