(Hagerstown, MD) -- The Hagerstown-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) along with the city of Hagerstown will welcome VetsRoll.org to Hagerstown on May 21. The group is made up of 200 World War II and Korean era U.S. Military Veterans as well as "Rosie-the-Riveters." Each year a new group of veterans are chosen for this trip. There will also be 100 assistants who have been given the opportunity to travel with the veterans.
The group, called VetsRoll.org, will departed from Beloit, Wis., on the morning of Sunday, May 20. They will spend Sunday night in Pittsburgh, PA. Eleven motor-coaches are expected to arrive at the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center in Hagerstown around 4 p.m. followed by a welcome session with Hagerstown Mayor Robert E. Bruchey II, other local elected officials and community leaders, and CVB staff members.
Betsy DeVore, Director of Sales at the Hagerstown-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau, has been working closely with the group to provide convention services for their stay in Hagerstown, May 21-23. Working with the CVB, the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center will provide a banquet to honor the Veterans and Rosie's on Monday night with a special patriotic program. After their arrival on May 21, the group will spend Tuesday sightseeing in Washington, D.C. The group will depart for their return trip to Wisconsin Wednesday morning.
The mission of VetsRoll.org is to provide safe ground transportation and an enjoyable experience for World War II veterans, Korean era veterans, and "Rosie-the-Riveters" to visit their memorials and other related sites in and around Washington, D.C. Many of the veterans of this era have never been able to enjoy these tributes built for them. These heroes, who are now in their mid 80's to mid 90's, are passing away at an alarming rate. VetsRoll.org aims to provide social and comfortable Badger Coach transportation to these individuals, free of charge.
