Lightning has gone to his new home

Hagerstown, MD: Lightning, the 8-9 month old Jack Russell/Border Collie mix that was hit by an automobile on October 22nd and whose owner failed to obtain medical attention for him has been given a clean bill of health and has gone to his new home. The original owner surrendered the dog to the Humane Society of Washington County's (HSWC) Field Services department on October 29.
Lightning sustained a fractured femur of the left rear leg and was operated on by Dr. Gellasch at CARE, Crossroads Animal Referral and Emergency, in Frederick on November 8. He required additional surgery to replace a pin that came loose. He spent two months in foster care and rehabilitation under the medical supervision of Dr. Gellasch. On Wednesday December 29, 2011 he went to his new home with Rebecca and John Clawson.
Lightning's surgery and care cost the HSWC $2,900.00. Thanks to donations from concerned citizens the surgical costs were covered in full. "The public was amazing," said Paul Miller, Executive Director of the HSWC. "We needed help with Lightning's bills and people really stepped up to help. I think that speaks volumes about our community. We can't thank each and every one of you for helping Lightning."
The HSWC established a Facebook(r) page for Lighting to keep people updated on his progress. Lightning was renamed Denny by his new owners who have agreed to send reports on how he is settling into his new home. Denny will continue to be in the hearts of this community that rallied to his aid.
