Antietam Recreation's 9th year for Cowboy Christmas Dinner and Show began this week and will run through December with the last show on Friday the 30th.
Having attended this fantastic and lively show, I speak from experience when I say that Antietam Recreation's Cowboy Christmas Dinner and Show is definitely worth seeing.
The minute you arrive you feel like you're home. Excitement fills the grounds - giving onlookers that magnificently warm and bubbly feeling only Christmas seems to give.
Specific show dates are as follows: November 11, 12, 16, 18, 19, 25, and 26 and December 2, 3, 8, 9, 10, 15, 16, 17, 20, 22, 23, 28, 29, and 30 with pre-dinner activities from 6-7PM; Dinner from 7 to 7:45PM and the show from 7:45 to 9:30PM.
Pre-dinner activities include exciting wagon rides, western line dancing, an animal stable with rabbits, chickens, ducks, and goats, a marshmallow roasting area, horse and pony rides, cowboy photos, gift shop where handcrafted jewelry, crafts, paintings, handmade food such as peanut brittle and cookies, T-shirts, and Christmas ornaments line the tables, and much more.
When seated and waiting to be served, be sure to check out the gorgeous decorations, which encompasses brilliantly decorated Christmas trees, candles, wreaths, a roaring fire, meticulously-placed garland and swags, ornaments, etc. The period costumes and music only add to the delightful experience.
The family-style meal consists of Cowboy soup, grilled chicken, herb potatoes, corn, green beans, corn bread, ice cream, and brownie.
The play this year is titled "The Miracle of Eagle Ridge". It is a heartwarming story of the Wild West that depicts the true meaning of Christmas. The show includes the thrilling action of world champion roper, knife thrower, whip cracker, and gun spinner & shooter, Andy Rotz; award winning singers Hannah Richardson (recently back from Apollo Theater in NY), Tim Rotz, and Lindsey Carroll, and professional dancers Paul and Melissa Watson. New to the Antietam Recreation lineup dancer is Mary Teal Mulligan, 2011 Miss Maryland Outstanding Teen, and 7-year-old Jassidi Minisci. Returning actors include Jim Hutson, Austin Marquis, and Janice Hose.
Attending Antietam Recreation's Cowboy Christmas Dinner and Show is a definite memory-maker and a great place to take the kids.
