From a '57 Chevy to a hot rod Lincoln, Waynesboro's classic car and truck show features a lineup of restored vintage vehicles sure to appeal to everyone.
The show, scheduled for Saturday, June 25 from 9am to 4pm, is sponsored by Mainstreet Waynesboro, Inc. and hosted by the Appalachian Golden Classics and Cumberland Valley Rod & Custom Club. Spectator admission is free.
Show vehicles will be parked along Main Street in downtown Waynesboro, which will be closed to traffic from Potomac to Walnut streets. In addition to the classic cars, downtown merchants are planning sidewalk sales and special promotions, and food vendors will be set up around Center Square.
"This event has proved very popular in past years," said Pat Fleagle, Mainstreet's director of economic development. The show was put on hold while the installation of brick sidewalks and re-paving of Main Street were underway. "Now that all of the work is finished, downtown is ready to host the car show once again."
The show is open to all cars, trucks and street rods dating to 1982 or earlier. Dash plaques will be given to the first 100 entries, and trophies awarded to the top 40 vehicles, along with special awards for Mayor's Choice, Longest Distance, Host's Choice and Best in Show.
Adventures in Coffee, American Legion, and The News Agency will be open for breakfast. Popular "oldies" music from the 1950s and '60s will be broadcast from Center Square. Alcohol, smoking, skateboards and bicycles are prohibited during the event.
"We hope people will take in the car show, enjoy a meal in one of our local eateries, then wrap up the day with the free Navy Cruisers concert at Renfrew Park at 6pm," Fleagle said.
The lead sponsor for the car show is Buchanan Auto Park and Automotive. Other sponsors are Tom Shockey Collision; Anthony Highway Motors, Notary, Tags and Title; Hagerty Insurance; and Key Insurance. Mainstreet sponsors include M&T Bank, 1912 Hoover House, Richard & Jean Rose, Tower Bank and Waynesboro Hospital.
Registration for the car show will be held from 9am to 1pm, and is $12 per vehicle. Advance registration is $10. For more information or to register, contact Bobby Etter at 762-2446 or the Mainstreet office at 762-0397. Registration forms and flyers are available online at www.wbopa.com.
