Sharpsburg Elementary School fifth graders at Antietam

On Thursday, May 26, the Sharpsburg Elementary School fifth graders went to the Antietam National Cemetery to place flags on the graves of the soldiers buried there. They respectfully placed the flags under the direction of the National Park Service Rangers, chaperones and classroom teachers, Cindy Weaver and Kim Rishell. The Sharpsburg Elementary School fifth graders have been placing the flags at the cemetery for about 23 years. Mrs. Betty Otto Kretzer, a park ranger at the time this was started, had the idea to invite the students. It is a great community service that helps the students have a better understanding of Memorial Day.
