The National Park Service's Antietam National Battlefield was notified that the readers of Maryland Life Magazine had selected Antietam as the best historic attraction in Western Maryland, and one of the top six selected in the entire State of Maryland.
"To be selected as one of the state's finest in the category of best historic attraction in the Western Region of Maryland is certainly a feather in the cap for Washington County. But to be selected as one of the finest six in the entire state speaks volumes for the importance of the Antietam National Battlefield," said the President of the Hagerstown-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau Tom Riford.
Antietam National Battlefield is Western Maryland's most-visited historic attraction, and last year saw more than 900,000 visitors (paid and free), a more than 10-percent increase in visitation compared to 2009.
