Master Gardeners offer Haiku Horticulture Workshop

The Franklin County Master Gardeners will offer "Haiku Horticulture - an Introduction to Japanese Landscaping, Bonsai, and Flower Arranging" on Saturday October 23 from 9-11am at the Ag Heritage Building, 181 Franklin Farm Lane in Chambersburg. The cost of the workshop is $10; for more information, call 717-263-9226.
"Haiku Horticulture" will be an overview and introduction to Japanese styles of horticulture by four Franklin County aster Gardeners. Linda Hoffman and Sylvia Kremp will discuss Japanese landscaping, and gardening in small places; Barbara Petrucci will demonstrate the art of Bonsai; and Nancy Redington will present the Moribana style of Ikebana flower arranging. In the same way that a few simple rules and nature themes guide the endless possibilities in Japanese Haiku poetry, when gardeners work with plants in a Japanese style, also using a few simple and adaptable rules, there is a corresponding endless set of possible results. This overview is useful for both the beginner and experienced gardener, and each of the presentations can be expanded to full, detailed workshops on their own, depending on the level of interest.
Pre-registration is required for the "Haiku Horticulture" workshop. Call 717-263-9226 to sign up, or for more information.
