Citizens police academy slated

Hagerstown, MD (JULY 30, 2010): The City of Hagerstown's Police Department is holding a Citizens Police Academy from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. every Tuesday from August 17, 2010 through November 2, 2010 at the Hagerstown Police Department located at 50 North Burhans Boulevard.
"The Citizens Police Academy gives citizens a better understanding of the Hagerstown Police Department and the rules in place that govern how our business is conducted," stated Officer Gerard T. Kendle. "The Academy is open to all persons who live work or play in Hagerstown and Washington County. Our program is free of charge."
Participants in the program will be given information about the Special Response Team; gangs; volunteer opportunities with the Hagerstown Police Department including Fire Police, Citizens On Patrol and Victim Advocates; criminal and crime scene investigations; explosives and weapons of mass destruction; firearms; police and the 4th Amendment; Community Emergency Response Training (CERT); and traffic enforcement.
Individuals will also be able to meet with the Chief of the Hagerstown Police Department Art Smith.
