The Humane Society of Washington County experiencing shortages of food and toys

Hagerstown: The numbers are in. Having just completed the fiscal year June 30th, HSWC's statistics show that 5,773 animals were received at the facility, an increase over the previous year by 432 animals, a 9% increase. This increase represents the most animal accepted by HSWC in the past 8 years. The largest category within the numbers to increase was owner surrendered animals which increased by 66% to a total of 1,292 owned animals.
With intake on the rise the Humane Society of Washington County (HSWC) is finding itself in need of the following items: Pedigree Dog and Puppy food, Yesterday's News Cat litter, Tidy Cat/Generic clay litter, and Purina Cat Chow. They also need cat and dog toys, especially KONGs for the dogs.
"All donations are greatly appreciated," said Paul Miller, Executive Director of the HSWC. "With no indication that the economy will soon improve we can only anticipate that we will see an continuing increase in incoming animals. This will mean that the continuing support from our community will be greatly appreciated." Anyone interested in donating to the shelter is welcome to drop off items during office hours: Mon, Wed and Friday 9am-5pm, Tuesday and Friday 9am-7pm.
