Hagerstown, MD (June 10, 2010): Northern Middle and E. Russell Hicks middle schools participated in the Project Citizen State Showcase on June 2, 2010, at the Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts in Annapolis. Northern Middle's team placed third in a statewide project competition, finishing just one vote short of second place. Northern Middle's project focused on, "Study Hall - Helping Students Succeed." E. Russell Hicks' team presented, "Animal Abuse," utilizing PowerPoint technology for the first time in the state showcase.
Project Citizen, according to 6th District Coordinator Gene Ebersole, is designed to aid and encourage students and citizens with understanding and participating in the American political system. Ebersole says, "The program is an opportunity for students to understand the workings of local government and ultimately creates better citizens as we all work together to improve our communities."
