Bester and Boonsboro High Receive Book Collections from NEH

Hagerstown, MD (May 6, 2010): Bester Elementary School and Boonsboro High School were selected as recipients of the 2010 We the People "More Perfect Union" Bookshelf, a collection of 17 classic hardcover books that appeal to students at various grade levels. The program is in its seventh year, sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities, encouraging young people to read and understand great literature, featuring themes in American history. Bester and Boonsboro High were among 4,000 school and public libraries to receive the collections. This is Bester's fourth and Boonsboro High's first collection from the program.
Books in the collection aimed at the elementary reader include When Marian Sang: The True Recital of Marian Anderson, A More Perfect Union: The Story of our Constitution, and Eagle Song. The high school titles include American Creation: Triumphs and Tragedies at the Founding of the Republic, Carver: A Life in Poems, Killer Angels by Michael Shaara, and Twelve Angry Men.
Each library also receives a DVD edition of The Civil War, the award-winning documentary by Ken Burns, along with other supplementary programming materials.
