City of Hagerstown Advisory
Antietam Clean Up Project

Hagerstown, MD (March 17, 2010): The City of Hagerstown would like to announce the first ever Antietam Clean Up project to be held from 9am to 1pm on Saturday, March 27, 2010 rain or shine. Volunteers of all ages are invited to meet at the lower parking lot behind Hager Hall located at 901 Dual Highway for the Clean Up. A family-friendly cookout/after party will be held for volunteers from 1pm to 3pm at Cancun Cantina.
Volunteers will be assigned to clean up trash or sort recyclables at various locations on Dual Highway and throughout Washington County. Each volunteer will be eligible to enter a raffle to win great prizes. All donations received will benefit the Community Action Council.
Volunteers are asked to wear work boots or heavy-duty shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. They will also be required to sign a release waiver.
According to Jamie Wainwright, one of the Antietam Clean Up organizers, "The Antietam Cleanup is part of a service project for the Hagerstown Community College. We really wanted it to be done by the community for the community. The great part is that the cleanup will be a win-win because its purpose is two-fold: volunteers will help clean-up Hagerstown and any donations received will go to the Washington County Community Action Council to help individuals and families in need."
Sponsors for the Antietam Clean Up include Barefoot Bernie's Bar & Grill, Hager Hall Conferences & Event Center, Cancun Cantina, Republic Services Waste Collection, Callas Contractors, Susquehanna Bank, Rider Jet Center, AC&T, Grease Monkey, Premier Martial Arts, Ryan's Buffet, House of Kobe, Martins Food Markets, Weis, Hub City Tattoo, Hawaiian Tan, Anytime Fitness, Denny's, Ponderosa, Washington County and the City of Hagerstown. The organizers of the Antietam Clean Up are: Morgan Mcleod, Matt Theus, Robby Hall, Derek Pryor, and Jamie Wainwright. The Honorable Mayor Robert E. Bruchey, II and President of the Washington County Board of Commissioners John Barr are serving as Honorary chairs of this event.
