Reflections: Making Choices In Life!
Making Choices In Life!
By William L. Bulla
"Life is simple. Make choices and don't look back!" This is a statement I heard a youth make. It is one with which I cannot agree. I found pages and pages of blogs by young people on the Internet with the same theme.
I still cannot agree with it.
The statement "life is simple" disturbs me. Apparently, I am not living in the same world, or I have not found the formula of today's youth.
Perhaps their formula called "a simple life" ignores all the responsibilities we face daily. I believe they have a day of awakening ahead of them.
Life is a journey filled with lessons, hardships, heartaches, joys, and special moments that they will experience through life. The way will not always be smooth. They will encounter many challenges, which will test their courage, strengths, weaknesses and faith. The results will rely upon the choices they make.
Some people make poor choices because they have the improper amount or type of information needed to make a good decision. Often the one they make may not appear to be a bad choice at the time. Once the choice is made the results can be less than favorable. At that time they should look back and say, "I could have done that differently."
But, today, many are saying "don't look back, we're not going that way!"
People say they are unique and there is no one in the world quite like them. But through life they will reflect back on their actions and wonder how things may have been had they done things differently, reacted differently, or said things differently.
At sometime in their life they will wonder how different would their life have been today, if I had made choices or decisions other than the ones they made?
Life has always been about making choices. But we must try to make the right choices. If we stop periodically and reflect on the choices we are making in life, we may find we need to correct some of our decisions.
"Looking back" or as I prefer, "reflections on life", allows one to look back and survey one's successes and failures, the good, the bad or the indifferent in one's life. What choices could I have made to make my life better?
I agree that we must make choices in life, but we must try to make sound ones. We must stop and look back to review these choices, and change them if we are wrong. The choices we make define us as people. We all make choices in life that define the sort of people we are and how we behave towards others.
