Regional Transportation Plan Workshops Scheduled

Regional Transportation Plan Workshops Scheduled

The Hagerstown/Eastern Panhandle Metropolitan Planning Organization (HEPMPO) has announced the availability of the Draft Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP). The HEPMPO is a federally designated regional transportation Planning Organization that includes Washington County, MD; Berkeley and Jefferson Counties in WV; and a small portion of Franklin County, PA. The LRTP evaluates current and projected regional transportation needs for the tri-state region for the next twenty-five years. Conclusions developed from this study will impact future decisions on development and funding of projects related to highways, freight, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, and transit operations for both the short and long term planning periods.
Because portions of the regional planning area are part of EPA designated non-attainment areas for air quality standards, an Air Quality Analysis (AQA) has also been produced relating to the financially constrained projects identified in the LRTP. The public comment period for the AQA will run concurrent with the comment period for the LRTP.
Three identical public workshop meetings will be held throughout the region to introduce the draft documents, answer questions, and take comments. The meetings will be held from 7pm to 8:30pm at the following locations:
Tuesday, March 30, 2010 - Berkeley County, WV - Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Building Auditorium, 2500 Foundation Way, Martinsburg, WV
Wednesday, March 31, 2010 - Jefferson County, WV - Charles Town Library Conference Room, 200 E Washington St., Charles Town, WV
Thursday, April 1, 2010 - Washington County, MD - University System of Maryland at Hagerstown, 32 West Washington Street, Second Floor, Hagerstown, MD
Copies of the draft LRTP and AQA are available on-line at the study website www.hepmpo.com; on display at the Washington County Free Library, Martinsburg-Berkeley County Free Library, Charles Town Library, the three County Commission offices; and the City government offices; or electronic copies may be requested from the MPO offices located at 33 W. Washington Street, Suite 402, Hagerstown, MD 21740; Phone 240-313-2080. Business hours are 7:30am to 4pm.
The public comment period for the draft documents will begin on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 and end at 4:00pm EST on Friday, April 16, 2010. Questions and comments should be directed to Robert S. Gordon at 240-313-2081. Comments on the plan can be submitted on-line at www.hepmpo.com.
