Trick-or-Treat Night Designated

Trick-or-Treat Night Designated

Hagerstown, MD (October 14, 2009): The City of Hagerstown has designated Friday, October 30, 2009 from 6pm to 8pm as the City-wide Trick-or-Treat Night. Please welcome kids in costumes to your home by turning on your porch light.
"We would like everyone to be safe on Trick-or-Treat Night," stated Hagerstown's Police Chief Arthur Smith. "Please remember to carry a bright flashlight or glow stick, always walk don't run, stay on the sidewalks, obey all traffic signals, visit houses that have the porch light on for you, don't pet animals that you do not know, walk with a parent or guardian or in a group and only trick-or-treat during the designated times."
Other safety tips for parents include carrying a fully charged cell phone, always accompanying children trick-or-treating, not allowing your children to wear or use rollerblades during trick-or-treating, and looking at the treats when you get home. Participating homeowners should have a well illuminated and clear path for those in costume, make sure candles and carved jack-o-lanterns are kept away from children, protect pets from cars or from inadvertently biting trick-or-treaters and have a fully charged fire extinguisher handy.
Chief Smith added that drivers should drive and go slow throughout neighborhoods, not drive while wearing masks and obey all traffic signals.
