In its regular meeting on July 21st, The Washington County Board of County Commissioners honored Robin Ferree, Deputy Director of the Hagerstown-Washington County Economic Development Commission (EDC), with a Commissioners' Certificate of Merit for earning the designation of Certified Economic Developer (CEcD. In presenting the honor, Commissioners' President John Barr lauded Feree for his dedication and perseverance in pursuing the certification.
The CEcD is a national recognition that denotes a mastery of principal skills in economic development, professional attainment and a commitment to personal and professional growth. Feree recently passed the CEcD exam, administered by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) in Raleigh, NC. He joins EDC Executive Director Tim Troxell, who earned CEcD distinction in 1999.
Ferree has worked for the EDC for five years. In October 2004, he was hired as the business development specialist and was appointed Deputy Director in 2007. Prior to joining the EDC, he had extensive private industry experience; including over 20 years with Grove Worldwide, where he was Vice President, International Sales and Government Marketing. Mr. Ferree holds a business marketing/management degree from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA and is also a graduate of the University of Oklahoma's Economic Development Institute.
The CEcD designation recognizes qualified and dedicated practitioners in the economic development field and sets the standard of excellence within the profession. Candidates must pass a rigorous and comprehensive three-part, two-day examination, which tests a practitioner's knowledge, proficiency and judgment in the key areas of economic development, including business retention and expansion, marketing, finance, workforce development, community development, real estate, strategic planning, and management.
The EDC is a county agency that provides assistance to new and existing businesses throughout Hagerstown and Washington County, Maryland. The EDC interacts with a vast network of public, private and nonprofit organizations to address the business needs of the community, as well as attract new companies to the county.
