Towpath Repair Fund Approaches $100,000 Goal Anglers

Help them reach their goal -- they're only $8,000 away! And best of all, donations to the fund are being matched by a local family foundation on a dollar-for-dollar basis!
Shortly after Tropical Storm Hanna washed out over 100 feet of the towpath near Old Angler's Inn, the C&O Canal Trust established the Towpath Repair Fund to raise $100,000 in private funds, which will be matched by $101,000 of NPS money. A benefit held at the historic Marwood Mansion last October helped the campaign get off to a great start and the Trust has now raised over $92,000 toward our goal!
The funds raised to date have helped to build the detour and will soon allow them to begin removing downed trees that block the canal just upstream of the breach. In addition, the funding will allow the park to launch the engineering and design work so the project will be ready to go when funding for the full repair, estimated at about $2.7 million, can be secured. They are now closer than ever to successfully completing this effort.
There is no better way to demonstrate the public's desire to see this invaluable park properly maintained. You can help them by helping to spread the word about the need to close this relatively modest gap.
