Local Artist's Work to be Auctioned at LuHowl

Hagerstown, MD: The Humane Society of Washington County's (HSWC) annual LuHowl fundraiser, scheduled for Saturday June 13th, will feature a very special silent auction item. This Hawaiian theme event that benefits the HSWC's dog spay and neuter programs will be held at the home of prominent local Washington County residents Don and Jone Bowman and will feature a Sun's baseball mandala created by local Sharpsburg artisan Joan Bontempo.
A mandala is an oriental representation of the cosmos that features concentric configurations of geometric shapes. This particular mandala, a baseball mandala, was installed in an exhibit of art and sports that was held at the Washington County Fine Arts Museum. The piece features memorabilia from the Sun's Baseball games including signed bats and ball, commemorative Sun's game balls, schedules, tickets, souvenir bats, a catcher's mask and a Lou Scally bobble head.
The piece was donated by HSWC Board of Directors President Susan Fancher and her husband Joe Ruzicka and is drawing a lot of interest. HSWC Executive Director Paul Miller expects the piece to have some active bidding. "Anyone that is a fan of the Sun's is going to want this item," said Miller. "This is a one of a kind item. Really a unique and interesting piece of artwork." For photos of the baseball mandala, visit the HSWC website at www.hswcmd.org
Tickets for LuHowl are available for $45 each and can be purchased by visiting the HSWC's homepage and click on the LuHowl icon. The event will be from 6-9 pm on Saturday June 13th. The Humane Society of Washington County is located at 13011 Maugansville Road in Hagerstown, MD.
