Economic Influence of the C&O

The Washington County Free Library announces two panel discussions and the production of a website dedicated to the economic influence of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal on Washington County and vicinity. The Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park and the Western Maryland Regional Library will partner with the Washington County Free Library to tell the story of life in the canal towns through historic photographs, newspapers, correspondence, and oral history. The online display will be a permanent feature on the Western Maryland Historical Library website: www.whilbr.org.
Two programs are scheduled on the C&O Canal and its importance to Washington County and western Maryland consisting of panel discussions and canal tours.
