Old Forge Destination Imagination Teams Do Well at States

Old Forge Destination Imagination Teams Do Well at States

Hagerstown, MD (April 23, 2009): The two Destination Imagination
(DI) teams from Old Forge Elementary School finished in the top six of all participating teams at the State DI Tournament at Towson University on Saturday, April 18, 2009. The EleMechanix placed third in the challenge, "Operation Cooperation," and the Woodchuckers placed sixth in the challenge, "A New Angle."
EleMechanix team members are Megan Black (4th grade), Seth Garnand (5th), Tyler Linn (5th), Mari Mullane (5th), Sam Pryor (4th), Spencer Rubino (4th) and Nick Shirey (4th). Team managers are music teacher Melody Wilson and parents Dan and Andrea Garnard. The Woodchuckers are comprised of Marisa Carson (5th), Zach Garvey (5th), Josh Geblein (5th), Sydney Davis (4th), Aaron Johnson (4th), Julie Thomas (4th) and Quinn Wandalowski (4th). The team is managed by enrichment teacher Emily Cilley and parent Jean Thomas.
Destination Imagination is a community-based, non-profit, volunteer-driven educational organization that teachers young students from kindergarten through university-level the critical and creative thinking skills needed for success in the 21st century. DI competition involves creative, spontaneous problem solving and teamwork.
Melody Wilson says, "We are very proud of these students for performing so well under extreme pressure at a state competition. I think they surprised themselves a bit, but their preparation, talent and creativity won the day!"
