WCPS Students Preparing for State GeoBee

Hagerstown, MD (March 18, 2009): Six school-level winners from the
Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) are preparing for the State of Maryland GeoBee next month, with an opportunity to earn a trip to the National GeoBee, May 20-21, 2009, in Washington, DC, sponsored by National Geographic and hosted by long-time TV game show host, Alex Tribek. The Maryland GeoBee is on April 3, 2009, in Catonsville.
WCPS participants will be:
* Rami Yanes - Grade 8 - Boonsboro Middle School
* Nathaniel Parchment - Grade 8 - Northern Middle School
* Tymon Walker-Cameron - Grade 8 - Smithsburg Middle School
* Nehemiah Teferi - Grade 7 - E.R. Hicks Middle School
* Steven Hart - Grade 7 - Springfield Middle School
* James Hebb - Grade 5 - Paramount Elementary School
The competition is open to students in fourth through eighth grades.
Each school-level winner must pass a written test to qualify for the state competition.
