TGIF Presents Irish and Historical Music

Chambersburg, PA: The Council for the Arts kicks off its spring 2009 TGIF concert series March 6 with "O' Be Joyful", a presentation by historical musician Rick Garland from noon until 1pm at the Capitol Theatre Stage, 159 South Main Street, Chambersburg.
Rick Garland brings an exciting show to the Capitol Theatre with a new variation on the "O' Be Joyful" performance. His newest and most popular program is the portrayal of Confederate Cavalry General J.E.B. Stuart who was, in fact, also a piano player and a singer! General Stuart would often ride along while singing to the sounds of his staff officer Sam Sweeney's banjo. The General even had his own theme song, which he was known to sing even while leading his men in to a charge during battle! The sing-a-long program will include some of General Stuart's favorite songs, as well as songs and stories to illustrate the influence of the Irish and their music on the popular music of the American Civil War era.
Rick is a returning performer with the TGIF concert series and has also performed at numerous and various venues including schools, museums, civil war re-enactments & events, civil war round tables, county fairs, Irish festivals, special fund raising events, assisted living & nursing facilities, and pubs. The Council for the Arts' TGIF Brown Bag series is an opportunity to sample first rate performances in an informal setting. All performances are free, but donations are gratefully accepted.
