County agriculture marketing specialist nominated for William Donald Schaefer Award

Agricultural Marketing Specialist for the Hagerstown-Washington County Economic Development Commission, Leslie Hart, has been nominated for the inaugural 2012 William Donald Schaefer Helping People Award.
Comptroller Franchot created this new program to recognize individuals and organizations in each County and Baltimore City best exemplifying William Donald Schaefer's lifelong commitment to helping people.
Comptroller Comments
Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot extended his sincere congratulations to Hart stating, "By your commitment you have enabled the members of your community to live more fully, with a greater sense of vision and sense of fulfillment. You have enriched many lives and I thank you."
"My best wishes to you for continued success in all your endeavors with the Hagerstown-Washington County Economic Development Commission and working for a better Maryland."
Hart was nominated by Brien Poffenberger, president of the Hagerstown-Washington County Chamber of Commerce in recognition of her dedicated service to the Hagerstown community.
Award Criteria
Criteria for nomination includes the following: demonstration of: improving the community; swiftly solving a citizen problem through effective government intervention; directly aiding the most vulnerable in society; or creating a public/private partnership to improve the lives of Marylanders.
"As we approach the one year anniversary of William Donald Schaefer's death, I can't think of a better way to honor his legacy of public service than by recognizing individuals and organizations demonstrating his doctrine of helping people," said Comptroller Franchot.
Nominations were reviewed by a special panel of friends and colleagues of Schaefer's including Lainy Lebow-Sachs, Mark Wasserman, Robert Douglas, Zelig Robinson and Michael Golden.
More About Leslie Hart
Leslie Hart is a lifelong resident of Washington County Maryland. She is a graduate of Mountain State University holding a Masters of Science in Strategic Leadership. As Agricultural Marketing Specialist, Hart is responsible for developing, marketing, and managing economic development strategies and implementing marketing programs to attract, retain, preserve, and grow agricultural enterprises and related industries in Washington County. Hart's role is to connect local residents and consumers to agriculture and agriculture to local residents and consumers.
