City College: The ins and outs of your local government

Hagerstown, MD: Residents in the City of Hagerstown are encouraged to discover the opportunities and services available to them by attending the City College, an eight-week course that introduces each department of local government to give citizens a better understanding of what's happening in their community.
The class meets every Monday evening from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. beginning April 2nd. On the first evening, attendees will meet the mayor and city administrator, who will discuss the history of Hagerstown and give the class a preview of how the local government runs. Throughout the course, each department will provide citizens with information about the work they do within the organization and the services they provide to the community.
"The City is fortunate to have this City College program, which provides an opportunity for residents, business owners, students and stakeholders to become better informed and be a good ambassador for the City of Hagerstown," explains John Lestitian, the Director of Community and Economic Development. "People should want to know what direction the city is headed and how we're getting there." Residents are encouraged to learn about their local government so everyone can work together better.
Meeting locations vary each week, but class times are scheduled from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. every Monday from April 2-May 21. Light refreshments will be provided each evening at 6 p.m. To register, call 301-739-8577 ext. 111 or email DCED@hagerstownmd.org.
