Hagerstown, MD (January 24, 2012) - The Interfaith Service Coalition (ISC), a community outreach cooperative effort of the Churches in the greater Hancock area, has presented its 2011 Volunteer of the Year Award to the Washington County Employees' United Way Day of Caring Team. The ISC expressed its grateful appreciation and recognition of the County's outstanding commitment to the coalition.
Washington County Government has provided a United Way of Washington County Day of Caring Team to ISC for the past three years. Last October, the team constructed a storage shed, painted parking lot lines, applied exterior painting, and checked electrical issues. In addition, the team performed various types of cleaning and other miscellaneous maintenance repairs. Please see the names of the involved County employees on page two of this release.
Contributing Something 'Extra' to the Community
County employees are continually committed to giving time, money, and other resources to help serve the community. The ISC award comes on the heels of news that County government employees once again exceeded their employee giving campaign contribution goal for local charitable organizations in 2011.
In last year's employee campaign, over $71,067.38 was pledged to the United Way of Washington County and $26,781.62 was pledged to Community Health Charities, for a total of $97,849.00. In 2010, County employees contributed a total of $96,418.50.
In addition to the employee giving campaign in 2011, County employees helped raise thousands of dollars and resources for local charitable causes as follows:
- Come As You Are Casual Days - $4,741 in cash donations
o Food Resources - 1,068 lbs of food donated
o Coats for Kids - 26 coats donated
o Toys for Tots - 52 toys donated
- Red Cross Blood Drives - Over 200 successful donations completed
- Supporting Children in Need, Inc. - The County Purchasing Department helped raise over $600 for this local non-profit organization.
