17th Annual Augustoberfest celebrates area's German Heritage

Explore German culture and folklore through authentic music, dance and merrymaking with two days of festivities during Hagerstown's 17th annual Augustoberfest. Modeled on traditional Oktoberfest celebrations in Bavaria, Augustoberfest pays tribute to the area's rich German heritage and supports scholarships for exchange students to Hagerstown's Sister City - Wesel, Germany.
This family-friendly event, run by the nonprofit Augustoberfest Charitable Foundation, will be held rain or shine under a large festival tent in City Center Hagerstown's Central Parking Lot. Join the celebration from 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday, August 25, 2012, and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, August 26, 2012. Gates open at 10:30 a.m. both days.
Both Saturday and Sunday will feature Bavarian food, entertainment and fun. Enjoy Bavarian pork roast dinner, Oktoberfest bratwurst, spatzle noodles, homemade sauerkraut and more, as well as Spaten Oktoberfest and other beers. The weekend's entertainment offers a glimpse into German culture and folklore through authentic music, dance and songs. An expanded children's area will feature a variety of activities and entertainment, including Horn's Punch and Judy Show, magic shows, arts and crafts, and storytelling. The Marktplatz craft vendor area promises an abundance of holiday and decorative items.

An alternate 6K trail is planned for those who desire a shorter distance.
